Piranesi Board Game
Type:Book Arts/Illustration/DesignDuration: 4 weeks

I made this game in a Narrative Systems course. The assignment was to somehow subvert an existing piece of media. Using Susana Clarkes novel ‘Piranesi’ as a base, I reimagined the story as a board game from the perspective of the books sentient ‘house’, the world where the characters live.
All pieces of the game were hand cut, mounted, and all text was printed using letterpress techniques.
The source material dealt with themes surrounding esoteric, lost knowledge, so I wanted to mirror the themes of the book with the processes of design I approached the project with. The rules of the game are formed around appreciation of the source material, and residing from the physical book are worked into gameplay to give readers a new perspective of the text itself. Cards with citations are meant to point to excerpts players would read aloud.
